2012, Photoshop painting done on Wacom tablet. Click HERE for original, full-size file.
About this project:
These digital paintings are rendered entirely in the computer using a touch-sensitive tablet and the same layering process as my oil paintings. The original file is then made available for free download allowing people to output it in whatever way they wish. Because the file is the original work and not a documentation of a pre-existing painting, this process allows me to sidestep the distinction between original and copy while distributing the "painting" to a broad audience. Additionally, I also prototyped low-profile, LED light-boxes as ideal displays for these works and as an alternative to a flat-screen monitor. Like the original files, these light-boxes exist in unlimited edition, with their pricing structure configured to always remain three times the cost of production. In this manner, these pieces go counter to the exclusivity and speculative price escalation of most traditional artwork, in effect becoming less expensive and more available over time.
2013, archival inkjet print in unlimited edition, custom-made, LED light-box, 28.5 x 34 in.
